In 2003, the IADS celebrated its 75th anniversary with a world-scale symposium devoted to department stores only, which has been emulated by others since. The event was also a celebration of the format which has, if anything, been growing in notoriety through innovations in merchandising, in-store experiences, marketing and architecture. Department stores have also embraced the multi-channel phenomenon which continues to grow and act as a source of new ideas.
In 2010, on the retirement of the ACI General Secretary, its offices moved to Paris and the ACI was integrated as an affinity group of IADS allowing some cooperation but maintaining a degree of autonomy.

The International Association of Department Stores and the ACI maintain links with department stores and their partners around the world as well as with associations, universities, analysts, consultants, other experts and brands and suppliers. Through a programme of meetings, working groups and projects, and most recently the IADS Academy, bringing together an international group of young up-coming executives, members exchange and cooperate on all areas of department store operations, and use their association offices as a resource.
The IADS and ACI are now in a unique position to capitalise on their shared history to provide member companies with both a professional, high quality and yet personalised series of services, contacts and ideas into the future, and help their members deal together with economic uncertainty, rapidly-changing technology, demanding customers, a wide variety of partners, and innovative competition.
